How it started
In an intranet project at the Swedish Organization for Municipalities and Regions a discussion suddenly came to life when somebody said "A waterhole" as the answer to the question "What should this web site be like?"

The result of this was very inspiring, and an idea started
to take shape in the spring of 2006

"Maybe, maybe..... Imagine how it would be to create a "Metaphor Safari....."

Leif Josefsson, who came up with the idea, met Ruth Nesje
in the newly started
European AI network and told her about it.She said:  Well I am building a  conference centre in Tanzania. I think it's agreat idea, lets do it!"

In the same network Leif had reconnected with Lena Holmberg from Sweden.  She said: "Well I wanted to go to Africa anyway. Let's do it"

Leif's wife
Ingrid Rudefors was a great inspiration. She is a script writer and film producer and her ideas around “here and now” writing became a very important component in the daily program.

Bengt Hjalmarsson, Sonja Berggren and Annet van de Vetering were three network members from Sweden and Holland who said: "Great idea, we can be your prototype customers".  So together we went on a Prototype Metafari in November 2007.

Chris Wallin from the Stockholm County Council has been a great supporter.  Leif and Chris went down to Tanzania in March 2008 for planning and to connect with the Tanzanian/Maasai consultant and community developer Rafael ole Moono who agreed to be co-facilitator and cultural host for Metafaris in Tanzania..
